Forestry Mulching in Lookout Mountain, TN

Serving Lookout Mountain · Hamilton County

Land Services for Lookout Mountain Homes, Yards and Acreage

Forestry mulching in Lookout Mountain, TN, uses a drum mulcher to grind brush and small trees into chips. The chips stay on the ground as mulch. Lots up here are mostly wooded home lots with big, mature trees. We clear the growth that fills in under those trees and leave the trees standing.

The town of Lookout Mountain sits on the north end of the mountain, above Chattanooga. Lookout Mountain, GA, borders it to the south, across the state line. It is one mountain top with two towns, and we work in both.

Three Crosses Land Services does forestry mulching and land clearing across the 37350 and 30750 ZIP codes. Underbrushing, kudzu removal, stump grinding, fence line clearing and brush hauling round out the work. We are based just north of Chattanooga. Call or text to set up a free estimate.

The town on top of Lookout Mountain

Lookout Mountain, TN, sits about 1,850 feet up. The 2020 census counted 2,058 people on its 1.34 square miles. Its sister city in Walker County counted 1,641 people on about twice the land. Scenic Highway and Ochs Highway are the roads up the mountain.

The town's public works crew keeps up some 21 parks and 21 miles of roads, alleys and rights of way. On the first Saturday of each month, the town sets out a dumpster. It takes items too large for regular garbage pickup.

Town brush pickup takes limbs up to 2 inches across and 8 feet long. Each limb has to be light enough for one person to lift. Piles can be at most 8 feet long, 4 feet wide and 4 feet high, behind the painted edge stripe. The crew takes one pile at a time and gets the rest on the next routine pickup.

The clearing work we do on Lookout Mountain

On a wooded lot, underbrushing takes out the privet, vines, briars and saplings under the big trees. The drum mulcher grinds that growth into chips where it stands. Lookout Mountain is inside the Hamilton County Water Quality Program, where clearing must not wash soil off the property. The chips stay on the ground as cover and help hold the soil after rain.

The Lookout Mountain Mirror has called kudzu a serious threat on the mountain. In September 2018 it reported a Georgia-side city ordinance: each property owner must remove kudzu and other invasive plants. Fines can be issued if the plants stay. Our kudzu removal work cuts the vines back to bare ground on banks and lot edges.

The town does not pick up brush cut by a for-profit contractor, so we haul ours off. Brush hauling puts it on our dump trailer, along with storm limbs and old brush piles. Burning a pile in town takes the Air Pollution Control Bureau's $15 county permit, October 1 to April 30. Our Hamilton County burn permit guide covers the rest.

Covering both sides of the state line

Our base is just north of Chattanooga, about 21 miles from the town as the crow flies. US 27 runs from our side of the county into Chattanooga, and the mountain roads climb from there. Lookout Mountain sits well inside the 40 miles we cover across Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia.

We cover the whole town and its 37350 ZIP code, plus Lookout Mountain, GA, and its 30750 ZIP code. Nearby St. Elmo, Lookout Valley, Flintstone and Chattanooga Valley are in our coverage too. Our mini skid steer fits through a standard fence gate, so tight lots and fenced back yards stay within reach.

Every free estimate happens on the lot itself. We look over the growth with you and mark the trees you want kept before work starts. We are a veteran-owned family business, licensed and insured, and our motto is Faith. Integrity. Service. Call or text (423) 260-5675 to set a time.

Lookout Mountain FAQ

Questions From Lookout Mountain Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Lookout Mountain. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (423) 260-5675

Will the town pick up the brush after you clear my lot?
No. Town ordinance keeps brush cut by commercial, for-profit contractors out of the pickup. The town still takes their leaves and grass clippings. That makes brush removal the contractor's job. The brush we cut stays on your lot as mulch or rides out on our dump trailer.
A storm dropped a tree in my yard. Will the town haul it off?
Not the trunk. After a storm, the town will not remove the main trunks and foliage of fallen trees on home lots. The homeowner has those removed by a licensed contractor. If it fell in open ground, we can cut it up and haul it off on our dump trailer.
There is a big tree leaning toward my house. Can you take it down?
No. Close-quarters tree work next to a house or other structure is not what we take on. Our tree work is small and mid-size trees in the open parts of a lot, along with overgrown shrubs. For a tree over the roof, call a tree service that climbs and rigs.
Do you work on the Georgia side of the mountain too?
Yes. Lookout Mountain, GA, is in Walker County, with the 30750 ZIP code, and it gets the same free estimate. Georgia sets its own burn rules, so the Hamilton County permit does not cover that side. Our Rossville page explains the Walker County rules.
What does it cost to clear a lot on Lookout Mountain?
The lot sets the price. How thick the growth is, stem size, gate access and the slope of the yard all move the number. Whether the brush stays as mulch or leaves on the trailer changes it too. We price the job on a free estimate, on site, before any work starts.
